Blessed With God's Glory
And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” And he said to him, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in your going with us, so that we are distinct, I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth?” Exodus 33:14-16 (ESV)
Recently, I was asking myself the question, “Why did God choose Moses to lead His people out of Egypt?” After all, Moses stuttered. He lacked confidence. He gave God excuses. It just didn’t make sense. But the one attribute Moses had was his desire for God’s glory. If God wanted a gifted speaker, He would not have chosen Moses. If God wanted an Army General, He would not have chosen Moses. If God wanted an intelligent Rabbi, he would not have chosen Moses. If God wanted a man with a clean past, He would not have chosen Moses. But the fact is that God wanted someone who passionately wanted to pursue His glory, so He chose Moses!
Life Lesson: When you have the favor of God, you live in the glory of God!
Verse 11 tells us the type of communication Moses had with God, because he had God’s favor. Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend (Exodus 33:11). Wow! That’s the kind of relationship I want with God.
The question Moses asks God in Exodus 33:16 is this, “What will distinguish me from other people?” The answer is simple. The glory and the favor of God. And this is true for you today. It is the glory and the favor of God that will set you apart from others around you. Moses wanted this. Do you?
QUESTION TO THINK ABOUT: When it comes to making the effort to be used of God, what excuses have you given God, lately?
PRAYER POINT: Pray that when others see you, they will see the glory of God.
ACTION POINT: As Moses spent quality time in the presence of God, purpose to do the same.
