Christ's Covenant Love
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” -1 Corinthians 11:25
The Greatest Story Ever Told is all about the love of Jesus Christ and how He went from heaven to earth. As He was preparing to go the cross, He chose to spend an intimate evening with the twelve disciples to observe Passover, which is a celebration of the God Who was, Who is and Who is to come.
Passover is filled with anointed symbolism for the believer today. One of my favorite parts of Passover is the four cups. Although Holy Communion focuses on Cup # 3, don’t forget that each of the three other cups have significant meaning as well.
Life Lesson: When you make the choice to be in Covenant relationship with the Lord, you position yourself to be covered by His blood!
The Cup of Sanctification (Cup #1) is a reminder that when you choose to live a sanctified life, God’s blessings come your way. The Cup of Deliverance (Cup #2) is a reminder that just as God delivered His people out of Egypt, He delivers you and me from our place of bondage. When the plague of the death of the first born son came upon the Egyptians, God told His people to place the blood of the Passover lamb on the doorpost of the front entrance of their home. Then, when the death angel came, he would pass over their house. They were covered by the blood. This was their testimony. Today, whenever harm tries to come your way, because of the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, you are covered by the blood. This is your testimony.
The Cup of Redemption (Cup #3) is a symbol of the cross – the place of sacrifice where our Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins. And last of all, the Cup of Restoration (Cup #4) symbolizes the Covenant Love that Christ initiated so you can have eternal life with Him. Now, it is up to you to receive this cup and complete your part of the Covenant with Him.
Question to meditate on: What does the word “covenant” mean to you and what is your role in your Covenant relationship with the Lord?
1) Express your gratitude to God for bringing you out of a life of sin and placing you under His covering.
2) Ask God to give you opportunities to use your testimony to bring others to faith in Christ.
