An Encounter With Jesus – Venu

My name is Venu Menon. I was born and brought up in a Hindu family in India. As a Hindu, I respected all faiths and thought all different paths will lead to God Almighty. I left India in 1968 and lived in Hong Kong for the next thirty years. I kept on practicing Hindu religion all along.

In 1998 I moved to Chicago and lived there fourteen years. My wife Salome was a catholic when we were married in 1969. But in Chicago she moved away and became a born again in 1999. I kept a worship room in my house a practice began in Hong Kong and continue in Chicago.

In July 2001, during an afternoon nap I had an encounter with Jesus. I saw a long loose white gown holding a lamb with one hand and caressing with the other. Soon I heard, “I will keep you close to my heart like this.” When I woke up around four in the afternoon I felt so happy and peaceful. As Salome was on a trip to India, I called a young Christian man and told him what happened. He came over and prayed for me and he told me it was God showing how much I was loved. Next morning after my morning shower I was heading to the worship room for my daily rituals. Suddenly, I heard the same soft voice saying “You don’t have to do it anymore.” I took another step and the message repeated. At that moment, I turned back from 32 years of my daily rituals because I was certain it was God speaking to me. Next three months, I contemplated what I saw and heard and on November 3, 2001.

I decided to surrender my life to Jesus. Now I did not know how to say the prayer of accepting the Lord. I got into the bathtub, knelt and open the shower. As water began flowing I closed my eyes and said, “Jesus I want to be with you, please help me.” Within seconds I heard the same soft voice and said “You are with me.” I began to tremble and with tears flowing. 0I knew I was born again.

In 2007 I had a near fatal car accident. I was in the ICU for 83 days and in an induced coma for 71 days. Doctors listed me as an hour to hour patient. But my Jesus did not leave me. Only loss I had was the amputation of my left leg. While in the hospital, I had another encounter with Jesus. I saw myself sitting on my knee with folded hands. The place was so beautiful that it was humanly impossible to construct. I saw a soft light coming towards me and heard the same soft voice “Venu, I will not leave you. I will pull you through.”

Yes, my Lord did not leave me and that is why I am writing this now. I am blessed with my beautiful wife, Salome, two precious daughters, two loving sons-in-law and three wonderful grandchildren. Since moving to San Antonio in 2012, we are blessed to have a wonderful loving place to worship Jesus at Fortress Church.

Life has been full of ups and downs since the time I accepted the Lord. But my Jesus has never left me or forsake me even during the very hard times. His unconditional love, grace, is all that matters in my life. My greatest joy is sharing His love with those who do not know Him.
