Life has its share of problems. Whether we like it or not, we have issues that we face. Sometimes, we make wrong choices, and have to face consequences. Other times, bad things happen to good people and we just have to deal with it.
Thanks to Adam, the human race has to deal with a whole lot of pain, suffering, sin and much more. I am going to have a long talk with Adam when I get to heaven. Whether we like it or not, we have to face the issues. And we’ve got to get back up. We’re tempted to give up on the road to happiness. But God says, “It’s time to get back on track.” This is called recovery.
Recovery? What do I need recovery from? Most of the issues that we deal with can be placed in one of three categories.
Hurts – the pain we face due to the people we deal with and the circumstances we face. Examples: sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, rejection, divorce, grief, abandonment.
Hang-ups – negative responses to the issues we face. Examples: depression, fear, insecurity, co-dependency, guilt, anxiety, financial debt, controlling character, unforgiveness, jealousy, bitterness.
Habits – strongholds that control behavior.
Examples: alcoholism, drugs, gambling, anger, overeating, sexual addictions, overspending, lying.
Don’t think that you are exempt from facing issues in life. If you think that you do not have any issues to deal with in life, then I want to pray for you because you are dealing with the issue of denial.
Who is Celebrate Recovery for? Everyone. If you have never faced a problem in life – if you have never been hurt before in life, then Celebrate Recovery is not for you. But if you have had to deal with problems, or if you have had to deal with hurts, then CR is for you.
We won’t judge you. If you have been hurt, the Lord says, “I want to heal you!” If you are confused, the Lord says, “I want to lead you!” If you’ve ever felt that you were helpless to change anything, the Lord says, “I want to give you the power to change.” If you’ve ever felt that no one understands what you are going through, the Lord says, “I want to comfort you!” If you feel anxious or worried or afraid or stressed out, the Lord says, “I want to bring you peace.”
